Why paper procedures fail the plant
Most plants already document their procedures. The failure is rarely in the document — it is in what happens between the binder and the equipment: how the instruction is understood, whether the job gets done at all, and what is left behind once it is.
Neglected because of paperwork
When the paperwork is more tedious than the task, steps slip — a check skipped at start-up, a round deferred, a maintenance job put off. Neglected equipment does not fail quietly: it takes downstream units with it, and at worst ends in a fire or an explosion.
Paper records are dead data
Turning completed forms into data for historical analysis is slow, manual work that rarely happens. Digital-native records distribute themselves on completion and can be searched, trended and audited at will.
What SIMS does
SIMS uses an animation of the procedure being performed correctly and turns it into an interactive checklist. Each step carries its own clip from the animated video, a written instruction, a spoken instruction, and the role responsible for it. Operators run the checklist on a tablet or phone at the equipment; supervisors assign, watch and review; the system keeps the record.
